Crooked River Lighthouse Coastal Blessing

The sky was clear and miles of beautiful beach and bay were within view from the top of the Lighthouse. With the beginning of another hurricane season on the horizon, an annual event at the Crooked River Lighthouse was held on Sunday, May 29th. Ministers, Carrabelle Lighthouse Association (CLA) volunteers, local citizens and tourists gathered for the traditional “Coastal Blessing” to ask God’s blessing and express hope for a mild season of storms this year. As the leaders of the local churches spoke their moving prayers from the top of the lighthouse, guests gathered on the porch of the Keeper’s House to hear. Participating in the blessing were Mother Terry Monica from Ascension Episcopal Church, Father Eddie Jones from Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Pastor Ron Coombs from the Church of God, and Pastor Ron Barks from the Assembly of God. Randy Harrison also read a Native American prayer as part of the service. After the “Coastal Blessing” everyone was invited to have refreshments in the Keeper House Museum.
